Summer means the return of farmers markets in metro Detroit, and there aren’t many better ways to spend a free weekend day or weekday evening than at a farmers market in metro Detroit.

Whether you’re looking for local products, locally grown produce, or a place to try some delicious foods, there are farmers markets across the area for you to check out.

Below are 10 of the best farmers markets you can check out, but there are even more in cities throughout metro Detroit.

Eastern Market 2934 Russell St. in Detroit

Detroit’s Eastern Market is one of the largest farmers markets in the country and hosts several events per week for anyone looking to shop in their time off.

While there is an actual farmers market, the entire Eastern Market District is worth a visit when it comes to shopping, eating, and drinking.

Eastern Market hosts Tuesday markets from 9 am to 3 pm every week, Sunday markets from 10 am to 4 pm, and the normal Saturday market from 6 am to 4 pm

On top of that, the Gratiot Central Meat Market is open every day for you to get locally sourced meats for your cookouts.

The Saturday market features more than 225 vendors and can draw up to 40,000 people in a single day, so be prepared for the crowds!

There you can find local shops, produce, snacks, drinks, and much more.

Birmingham Farmers Market – 660 N. Old Woodward in Birmingham

The Birmingham Farmers Market is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2022 and is open every Sunday from 9 am to 2 pm between May 1 and Oct. 30, 2022.

They have fresh produce from around the area, and officials say it’s also a great experience for people to gather with others in the community.

The farmers market also has beautiful flowers and plants to brighten up your home.

Also, the farmers market has special events happening every month, including the second Sunday of every month featuring a fitness activity during the market.

The 20th season celebration is happening on Aug. 7, and the end-of-season celebration is on Oct. 30.

Dearborn Farmers and Artisan Market – 1034 Monroe St. in Dearborn

Every Friday, people gather in Dearborn for the Dearborn Farmers and Artisan Market, which runs from 2 pm to 7 pm through the end of September.

While shopping at the market, you can get Michigan-produced farm products, woodworking, pottery, jewelry, cheese, meats, and more.

If you’re not planning to shop, you can enjoy some food from food trucks that change every week, watch live cooking demonstrations, listen to music, or even participate in yoga sessions that are provided by Inner Sage.

Some of the vendors include Nature’s Jewel, Divine Crystal, Date Night Treats, Royalty Gardens Body Care & more.

Royal Oak Farmers Market – 316 E. 11 Mile Rd. in Royal Oak

The Royal Oak Farmers Market is another one of the largest in the state. It opened in 1925 and has grown since, serving all of metro Detroit.

On top of the normal farmers market on Saturdays, which runs from 7 am to 1 pm, they have a food truck rally on the second Wednesday of every month from 5 pm to 9 pm, and an antiques and collectibles market every Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm

If you’re looking for a smaller experience, the Friday Farmers Market is open from 7 am to 1 pm and has a limited selection of vendors but is still a great time.

While there, you can get baked goods, specialty foods, produce, plants, flowers, and much more.

Dodge Park Farmers Market 40620 Utica Rd. in Sterling Heights

The Dodge Park Farmers Market happens every Thursday from 3 pm to 8 pm from June through September.

Some of the vendors include Hey Honey, Tennerra Winery, Roost-N-Roots Farm, Mike’s Creamy Garlic, Uncle Peter’s Pasties, and more.

They also have nearly a dozen different food trucks, which could include Little Bros Burgers, El Chanchito.

Shelby Farmers Market — 49965 Van Dyke Ave. in Shelby Township

The Shelby Farmers Market has been around since 2008 and takes place on the grounds of the historic Packard Proving Grounds. It runs every Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm between May and October, rain or shine.

At the market, you can stock up on everything you need from maple syrup, honey, bakery items, eggs, produce, and more.

Vendors planned for the entire season include The Meat Union, Barley + Fin Coffee LLC, Overstuff Closet Boutique, Titus Farms, Motown Rocks, and many more.

They also have dozens of weekly vendors that rotate each week offering delicious bakery items, lunch, drinks, and more.

st. Clair Shores Farmers Market — 24800 Jefferson Ave. in St. Clair Shores

The farmers market in St. Clair Shores is held on the fourth Sunday and the second Thursday of every month between May and October.

Thursday markets include a beer area, while Sunday markets only have the actual farmers market.

There you can find local produce, handmade goods, activities for kids, entertainment, and more.

They have more than a dozen different farmer vendors lined up, and dozens of food and craft vendors. Some of those include The Bread Barn, Uncle Calvin’s Sweet Potato Pies, Becca’s Boutique, JSK Crafts, and more.

On top of that, the market will have two food truck rallies, one on July 24 and one on Oct. 2, with a beer area as well.

Rochester Farmers Market – Corner of E. Third and Water St.

The Rochester Farmers Market is in full swing for its 23rd season and happens every Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm between May and October.

The market features a variety of herbs, flowers, fresh produce, specialty foods, coffee, bread, and much more.

They update their map of the market and vendors weekly, and some of the vendors include Westview Orchards, The Schweet Spot, Rochester Fudge Co., The Healthy Moose, and more.

Plus, on Aug. 6 and Sept. 3, they are offering Museum at the Market where you can learn more about the history of the Rochester area.

Also, they are also offering a health corner from Ascension Providence Rochester on July 16, Aug. 6, Aug. 20, Sept. 17, and Oct. 1 where you can learn more about sports medicine, breast cancer awareness, mental wellness, and more.

Farmington Farmers and Artisan Market – 33113 Grand River Ave. in Farmington

The market in Farmington happens every Saturday between May and the end of October from 9 am to 2 pm

It’s the 29th year the market has been open, and they offer a variety of events on top of the normal goods and services you can get at the market.

On July 16, the market will move to the Farmington High School parking lot for a Founders Festival, and Aug. 20 is Calder Dairy Day which celebrates the well-known dairy farm.

Also, they have Music Makes the Market, which has performances every Saturday at the market for people to enjoy.
