MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX – Demonstrating its heart for the community, Woodforest Charitable Foundation has recently presented the first installment of a $2.5 million commitment that was initiated last fall for the naming of Children’s Safe Harbor’s (CSH) new, expanded co-located building in Conroe. Woodforest Charitable Foundation began supporting CSH in 2009 and has given funds steadily over the past 13 years.
Woodforest Charitable Foundation is dedicated to enriching lives and communities through social and public service programs. The Foundation supports 501(c)(3) charitable organizations in the communities across 17 states served by Woodforest National Bank. Such charitable causes include hunger relief – especially childhood hunger; healthcare improvement for low-income families, the uninsured, and underinsured; housing for the working poor and disabled veterans; youth education; and family support to empowered disadvantaged, abused, neglected and/or those considered to be at risk.
CSH is a non-profit advocacy center that provides specialized services to child victims ages 2-17 in response to trauma from severe physical abuse, sexual assault, sex trafficking and exploitation, neglect, or witnessing violence. Responding to an ever-increasing caseload of forensic interviews each year – with a whopping 2,398 children served in 2021 alone – CSH has significantly outgrown its current and will break ground on a new building at an expanded location in Conroe this fall.
Kim Marling, Executive Vice President of Woodforest Charitable Foundation, said, “Can we make a difference in preventing child abuse and the trauma that accompanies it? I believe the answer is ‘yes.’ It begins with awareness, having open conversations, and knowing where to turn when abuse is suspected or alleged. Children’s Safe Harbor offers essential services to these innocent victims. These services are truly essential for a successful recovery. We have supported CSH for many years and have seen the amazing work that they are doing in helping children and teens move beyond the abuse and overcome their emotional scars. We are confident that our 2021 commitment to Children’s Safe Harbor will make a significant impact in their mission and hope that many others will choose to take action to stop child abuse and support CSH.”
Victoria Constance, MSPH, Ph.D., Executive Director of CSH, added, “The support for our children’s advocacy center has received from Woodforest Charitable Foundation over the years has been immeasurable. While it’s true that child abuse, especially child sexual assault, is a difficult subject that no one wants to discuss, we are thankful for the ongoing support that the Foundation has provided in all aspects of our success. In turn, we continue to make great strides in helping and healing these young victims and their families to pave a path toward the hope and light of moving forward in their lives. We are immensely grateful for Woodforest Charitable Foundation’s longstanding partnership and investment in our journey to end child abuse. It’s not just a building, it’s a gateway.”
